Dr. Michael P. Crosby (PI)

Michael Crosby
President & CEO of Mote Marine Laboratory

Dr. Crosby has over 30 years of leadership and management experience in diverse, trans- discipline, multi-institutional national and international research initiatives with multiple universities, national and international science and resource management agencies, programs, and committees. Many have focused on improving the “synthesis, translation and transfer” of science and technical information between research, public policy and stakeholder communities. He also has a history of success in building initiatives for broadening participation of URMs in marine science, such as leveraging private foundation funding with that of the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council and the Government of American Samoa to establish a Marine Science Fellowship Program for undergraduate students from American Samoa and leading the development and implementation of the 2009 Hawai‘i State EPSCoR program with significant resources dedicated to broadening the diversity of the State’s STEM workforce through enhancement of hands-on research experiences for K-12, undergraduate and graduate students in concert with broader community interactions. As President & CEO of Mote Marine Laboratory, he inculcated specific institutional strategic goals for pro-actively increasing accessibility for URM students in all MML education programs. With his diverse national and international experience, his leadership position at MML, and success in securing significant philanthropic funding in support of MML research, education and outreach initiatives, Dr. Crosby is ideally positioned to lead, provide oversight for, and ensure the sustainability of LSAMP MarSci-LACE.
